Purebred pets
Dogs and cats make wonderful pets! Affectionate and easy to care for, they are the most popular pets in America.
If you’re looking for a dog or cat to welcome into your family, please consider adoption from a local humane society. These animals need loving homes. Remember that, even in so-called “no kill” shelters, limitations in resources and space will mean that many animals will be turned away if the presented animals in need outpace adoptions.
Check with our office first, particularly if you’re interested in a healthy cat or kitten, as we’re often fostering kittens or are aware of animals that need homes.
Many prospective owners, however, have their hearts set on a specific breed due to size, appearance, behavior or other qualities. A purebred animal has a known ancestry; that is, a family tree. Purebred animals who are members of a breed will closely resemble others of their breed in appearance and other characteristics.
A pedigreed animal is one that has its ancestry recorded, usually in a breed registry. The number of generations required varies, but all have papers from the registering body that attest to their ancestry.
